Just in time for the holiday season and the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Hasbro has launched their newest line of Star Wars Mighty Muggs, which stand slightly shorter than their predecessors but come with an upgrade to ring in the new year 2018! So what might that upgrade be?
The wonderful team at Entertainment Earth was kind enough to send us this first wave of Muggs to grab a sneak peak at all of their vinyl awesomeness before their release (View EE's blogpost here on the new Muggs). Each Mugg is uniquely stylized after their Star Wars character. They stand at 4 inches tall (original Mighty Muggs are 6 inches tall), come packaged in a well crafted display case and regarding that upgrade mentioned earlier . . . each individual figure comes with 3 unique faces, simply push down on top of their head, release and watch their facial expressions change! Very cool feature!
Now let's get in to the nitty gritty of this new line of Mighty Muggs with a little help from Darth Vader:
As mentioned earlier each Mighty Mugg is packaged in a well crafted display case that's made of hard plastic. The packaging artwork is stylized to the brand and simple enough to showcase the figure very well.
You'll also notice that each Mighty Mugg has a number on the side of their packaging, Darth Vader happens to by #1 in the Star Wars line.
While this new line of Mighty Muggs can be played with they're more geared for collectors who want to display them, hence the display case it comes in. The case was crafted in a way that allows you to carefully remove the figure from it and place it back in with ease. If you recall, the original line of Mighty Muggs came in cardboard boxes which inevitably would get damaged. This new case solves that problem!
To remove the Mighty Mugg from the case you'll need something to turn the plastic screws at the bottom, we used a flathead screwdriver, you'll also need something to gently cut the tape attaching the plastic lid to the base of the case, we used a pocket knife.
After you turn both plastic screws 45 degrees and cut the tape on the edges, simply turn the Mighty Mugg over and lift off the plastic lid with ease to expose the figure. If the lid is stuck, you'll see small clips on the sides of the base that can be pinched in to unlock the lid.
Overall we really like this new line of Mighty Muggs. They're made very well and the vinyl is of high quality. The unique feature of 3 different faces on each Mugg is very cool and the product does a great job breathing new life into an old line of collectibles while keeping the same figure shape we've grown to love. As we stated earlier, these figures are tailored more for collecting and displaying, however they can be played with!
