Monkey Man first appeared in the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark where he was hired by the enemies to poison Indiana Jones. However, his plan was foiled when his pet monkey instead of Indy ate the poisoned dates. Sallah immediately recognized the "bad dates" and warned Indiana in the nick of time before he ate one.
